Mona's obituary
She graduated from Butler High School in Louisville, KY and went on to attend and graduate from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. Afterwards she worked as a reporter for the State of Indiana and later as a Director of Marketing and Communications at the Indianapolis Museum of Art until 2004.
She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta and an active member of The Coalition of 100 Black Women before her illness. Serving people brought her joy.
Mona is survived by her loving and devoted husband Marvin, as well as their children Chericka Stigger of Indianapolis, Dionne (Marcus) Banks of Indianapolis, Farryn (Sidney, Jr.) Slaton-Barkley of Macon, GA and Marvin (Jordan) Rhodes, Jr. of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; siblings Sam Watkins, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Leonard Watkins and Cheryl Watkins of Louisville; a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Please join us in celebrating her life Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 700 W. 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN. Visitation starts at 11:00 am and service starts at 12:30 pm. Repast starts immediately after service.
