Mitchell's obituary
Mitchell Steven Treadwell (Steven, Stevie, Steve, or Uncle Steve) – but don’t call him Mitch!) was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on February 26, 1965, the youngest child to Benjamin Patrick Treadwell and Betty Jean Mitchell. After the passing of his father at a young age, eventually Betty Jean, his Momma, remarried Horace Oglesby Jr, who also became a wonderful part of his life. He grew up in a very large and loving family, with his siblings Michele, Brian, and Jeffrey at home, and a large circle of 9 aunts and uncles and many cousins to keep him company. Even from a young age, he was the life of the party, always in grown folk’s business (as his grandparents, Theodore and Lilla Pearl, would say) and always getting into a bit of mischief. Steve grew up all along the Raritan River, with his dearest lifelong friend April Allen, in a beautifully diverse community he loved and appreciated, and brought up in every hilarious story he told.
Steve refused to go to Rutgers because Momma worked there, and he needed a little space from home. But he didn’t want to go too far and instead graduated from Kean University in Union, NJ with a B.S. in Accounting, and his favorite giant old calculator that he used for entirely too long. During college, he met the love of his life, his eventual wife, Yvette Mendez, and they had their first child, Ivy Janiece – who he actually wanted to name Ursula (she’s thankful he didn’t.) Fast forward a few years and an impressively long resume and the highest frequent flyer status Delta has ever given, they’re living in Virginia, and Steve and Yvette welcomed their last 3 children, twins Jayden Ryan and London Miles, and their youngest, Nadia Simone. Pursuing greener pastures, warmer weather, and dollar bills, the Treadwells moved to Georgia, where Steve was able to run his own LLC and then become Director of a large financial software firm while continuing to make sure his family thrived. His family expanded again with the addition of his daughter-in-law Lea, and his role as Uncle Steve to so many nieces and nephews was one of the great joys in his life.
Although Steve struggled with various health concerns throughout the last years of his life, he never lost his sense of levity, joy, passion, and tenacity. He passed peacefully on February 14, 2022 in Atlanta, Ga surrounded by his wife and children. And he never stopped dancing.
