Mirna E.'s obituary
Mirna Elizabeth Vasquez-Simon, 71, of Spring, TX, passed away on June 20, 2022. Mirna was born on September 10,1950 to Jose Arturo Simon and Isabel Gonzalez de Simon in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Mirna was the 3rd of 7 children. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and brother, Milton Simon. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jose Manuel Vasquez, son, Jose Arturo Vasquez-Simon, his wife, Cristina Vasquez-Simon, grandsons, Christian, Noah, and Jackson Vasquez, brother, Melvin Simon, sisters, Oneyda Aizpurua, Lissette Simon Gonzalez, Maritza Nunez, and Mireya Simon Gonzalez and many nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Institute Sagrado Corazon as a teacher, she then went on to study Microbiology at Universidad Autonoma de Honduras and graduated with a Microbiology degree. After graduation, she spent some time traveling and exploring Europe. Mirna then returned home to Honduras and provided humanitarian services to the people of Honduras during the 1969 Futbol war between El Salvador and Honduras. In her late 20s she moved to the United States and settled in Houston, TX where she met her beloved husband, Jose Manuel Vasquez. In 1981, they joined in marriage and began their life together. Mirna and Jose had their first and only child, a son, Jose Arturo in 1983. She worked as a lab technician in the 1990s for many years at Doctors Hospital in Houston where she met many lifelong friends. She then pursued her career as a histopathology technician and landed her job with Baylor. There was not a doctor, nurse, boss, or coworker she worked with that did not call her friend and she again formed many lasting friendships in her years at Baylor which she retired from in 2014. Jose Arturo and his wife Cristina joined in marriage in 2010 and gave Mirna her favorite role, adoring Abuela, to 3 precious grandsons, Christian, Noah, and Jackson.
Mirna was a dedicated mother, wife, sister, Tia, Abuela, and friend. Family was incredibly important to her. She decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother and abuela. Mirna was passionate about uplifting her family and friends and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives, and when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found visiting her many dear friends and going out to socialize. Mirna had a great love for God and was a faithful servant her entire life. We were richly blessed by her presence in our lives and we will miss her greatly. The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to Celebration church after 9am on July 15.
A celebration of life will take place at Celebration Church of The Woodlands on Friday, July 15 at 4:00pm.
