Minnie's obituary
Minnie Thompson (née Giden), late of Gary, passed away on May 29, 2023 at home surrounded by her family after a sudden illness.
Minnie was born in Sunflower, Mississippi on June 23 1949. Her mother and father relocated to Gary, she took up roots and raised a family of her own. She devotedly served her clients for 35 years as a home aide, showing genuine care and compassion. Minnie was a passionate supporter of the Chicago Cubs and Gary Railcats. She found great joy in taking family and clients to the ballpark for outings. Minnie was known for her kind, caring demeanor, her perseverance, great sense of humor, and wealth of wisdom. She greatly enjoyed automobiles, cooking, listening to favorite pieces of her record collection , and spending time with her friends at the local VFW playing bingo. She was a pillar in the community and her parish, New Macedonia baptist of Gary. There finding good company and fellowship amongst the congregation. Minnie was also a frequent volunteer and visitor to her son’s church, Mount Sinai Missionary of Gary.
Minnie is survived by her sons Alonzo and Anthony Day; her son Migail Giden; her granddaughters Christy Arven, Ashley and Anna Blanton, and Felicia Day; her grandson Johnathan Counts; and nine great grandchildren. Minnie was preceded in death by her daughter Tricia; her husband Alfred Thompson. A memorial service will be held in honor of Minnie on Saturday, June 10th, 2023 at 12 p.m. at New Macedonia Baptist Church (2553 Waite Street, Gary, Indiana). Family and friends are invited to join in expressing condolences and celebrating her life and vibrant legacy.
