Milya's obituary

Milya Markovna Treyster died on May 1, 2021, surrounded by family. She was born in Kamenetsk-Podolsk, Ukraine on June 4, 1921. As a teenager, she and her family escaped persecution by Nazis during WWII. After the war, she got married and had a son, Alex in 1949. Milya worked her entire adult life in higher education and organizational management. She was beloved and admired by hundreds of students. In 1994, she and her family immigrated to West Hartford, CT with the help of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. Milya became active in the Russian immigrant community and made many friends through Congregation Beth Israel.

Milya was known for her impeccable cooking and baking skills, her ability to mend and fix clothing, her gregarious personality, and most of all - her endless devotion to her entire extended family.

Milya died a month shy of her 100th birthday. She was predeceased by her sister Leah. She is survived by her sister Eva and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her son Alex and daughter in law Irina, of Simsbury, CT; her granddaughter Taina and her family in Jerusalem, Israel; her grandson Dmitriy and his family in Clarksburg, MD; her granddaughter Larisa and her family in South Orange, NJ. She leaves behind ten great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society.

The funeral will be on Tuesday May 4, 2021 in CT.
