Midge's obituary

Mildred Ann "Midge" (Najemnik) Zeman, former resident of Illinois and Ohio, died peacefully on August 7, 2020 at her home in Ridgefield, WA.

Midge is survived by her three children - son David R. Zeman (Illinois), daughter Nancy J. Cheek (Washington), daughter Mary Ellen "Ellie" Byrd (Washington), also daughter-in-law Faye Statz Zeman (Illinois), granddaughter Sarah Cheek (New York), granddaughter Libby Zeman Stark (Wisconsin), granddaughter Hannah Zeman (Wisconsin) and great grandson David T. Zeman (Illinois).

Midge was born on a farm in Mendon, Ohio where she spent much of her childhood. She eventually moved to the Chicago area where she met her future husband, Rudy Zeman. Together, they lived in La Grange Park, becoming close friends with neighbors Bud and Rose Deetz. Midge's three children were born in the Chicago area, then the family relocated to Danville, IL where they stayed for over 10 years. Midge worked part-time there as a dental hygienist along side her dear friend, Lura Dahl. Eventually, the family returned to La Grange Park and Midge & Rudy remained there until 1996 when they "downsized" to a retirement community (Tabor Hills) in Naperville, IL.

In 2011, five years after her husband's death, Midge relocated to Ridgefield, WA to be near her daughter, Nancy. Ellie relocated to Ridgefield in 2014 and the three lived within 1/2 mile of each other.

Midge loved gardening, cooking, traveling and being a mom. She often said that raising her three children brought her more joy than anything in the world and it was her greatest accomplishment.

Midge was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph L. Zeman and her brother, Emil Najemnik.

A "Celebration of Life" will be planned and held in the Chicago area when the pandemic has subsided enough to allow group gatherings.
