Mildred's obituary

Mildred P. Wurtsmith (December 20, 1929- April 8, 2022)

Mildred was the daughter of Martin and Emma Eichler, an old time German family that put down roots in Edwards, CO where she was born. Their place was near the area of the old Battle Mountain High School in Eagle Vail. Many a time she ran the milk cows out of that brushy pasture there. She was the valedictorian of her Gypsum High School graduating class. Mildred spent most of her life in Eagle County. After high school she worked at First National Bank in Eagle and attended Barnes Business College in Denver. She later married Ben Wurtsmith of Burns, Colorado in 1950. Her life was spent being a Christian ranch woman serving the lord and her family. After Ben got out of the service they moved to Burns. They had three children (Dayna Wurtsmith, Jill Schlegel and Betsi Sabo). Her life was spent working and taking care of her family on the ranch. The Lord blessed her with a wonderful mind and a sturdy body. Mildred was an avid gardener and she spent many hours tending her large garden on the ranch. In the fall, she spent many hours in the kitchen canning and preserving the goodies from her garden. She was a wonderful cook and spent years cooking in the Burns School and later in the cafeteria in Eagle Elementary where her children attended school. Millie spent her last years battling Alzheimer's Disease. She passed into Glory on April 8, 2022. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
