Mildred's obituary

Our cherished and most beloved mother, Mildred Ethylene (Shuff) Bibbins passed from this life to her eternal home on March 8, 2023 at the age of 72 in Manchester, CT. Mildred was born on February 6, 1951 to the late Gaither Odell Sheff, and Lillie Ruth (King) in Westfield, NC. Mildred discovered her gift of song as a young girl and devoted her voice to the lord. She loved to sing in the choir and above all, with her brothers. Mildred was a retiree with Colt Mfg. in West Hartford CT where she was employed for over 26 years. “Millie”, as she was affectionately referred to by her coworkers, has the distinct honor of being the very first woman as well as the first black female union Chief Stewart. An elected position which Mildred served with integrity and dedication. Mildred was predeceased by former husband, Anthony P. Bibbins Sr., sisters, Edith Glenda Penn and brother, William Marvin Odell Shuff (survived by wife, Martha Ruth) and nephew Gary Simmons. Mildred is survived by daughter, Zandra Thomas (Eugene Sr.) and son, Anthony Bibbins Jr.; seven grandchildren: Alexa Thomas, Naquan Ransome, Anthony Bibbins III, Cheyenne Bibbins, Aaron Bibbins, Alysa Thomas & Eugene Thomas II, three great-grandchildren; brothers, Philip Shuff (Maggie), Frank Shuff, Leon Shuff (Ercelle), Gerald Shuff Sr. and sisters, Marion Hatcher-Jessup (Bobby), Maray Burton and Ruth Smith and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends. A celebration of life in Mildred’s birthplace of North Carolina is to be announced.
