Mildred's obituary

Mildred Oxendine Hunt, age 89, born on May 13, 1935 (Fairmont, North Carolina) passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, North Carolina. She lived a life rooted in love, faith, and family.   Mildred is survived by her husband of 70 years, Nathen Hails Hunt; her children: Reda (Guru) Murthy of Bemidji, MN; Nathan (Evelyn) Hunt of Red Springs, NC; Erika (Ervin) Locklear of San Antonio, TX; Rozell (Hal) Blackmore of Supply, NC; David (Lisa) Hunt of Fayetteville, NC; Cassina Hunt (Mike) of Pinehurst, NC; Charles (Sandra) Hunt of Fairmont, NC; and Samuel Hunt of Jacksonville, FL; her siblings, Osteen, Anver, Linwood, and Linda Reynolds; her grandchildren: Darren, Bobbie, John (deceased), Ashley, Natasha, Erick, Derrick (deceased), Coree, Nathan, Justin, Kayla, Johnathon, Joseph, Matthew, Kimberly, Kirkland, Zachary, Clay, Bernadette and Alex; and her great and great-great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents Wheeler and Ruby Chavis Oxendine, siblings Dee and Robert Oxendine and Mary "Carol" Margaret  Chichura and grandsons Derrick Hunt and John Campbell.

Mildred retired from Purnell Sweat High School and lived with her husband in Maxton, North Carolina.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her kindness, warmth, and selfless nature touched all who knew her. A pillar of strength and compassion, she always gave more than she took, leaving behind countless cherished memories and an enduring legacy of love and wisdom.   

A service to honor and celebrate her remarkable life will be held at White Hill Baptist Church in Pembroke, NC on Tuesday, March 11 at 2:00 PM, with burial to follow at the Lumbee Memorial Gardens Cemetery (774 Moss Neck Rd, Lumberton, NC).   Family and friends are invited to join in visitation at White Hill Baptist Church on Monday, March 10 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Though she is no longer with us, Mildred’s legacy of love and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those she so deeply touched.  lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Jude Children’s
