Millie's obituary

Mildred Gray, affectionately known as Millie to her friends, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 in her daughter Jane's home in San Diego, CA. Born on May 30th, 1928 in New York City to parents hailing from Czechoslovakia and Austria, she later moved with her family to Connecticut.

Millie's life was intertwined with love and family. She met her beloved husband, John, a WWII navy veteran, and they married in June of 1950. Together, they built a beautiful life, settling in Camillus, NY in 1958 and raising five children: John, Michael, Jane, Jim, and Joan.

Summer days were cherished by the Gray family, spent in Cape Vincent, where they enjoyed fishing, boating, and bonfires. Millie's passion for cats led her to establish the Salt City Cat Club, an annual event in Syracuse.

Beyond her love for felines, Millie adored her canine companions, from her Doberman Maxine to her toy poodle Charlie Brown. She was a woman of many talents, excelling in art, winemaking, and dancing, and her creative touch extended to gardening and sewing. It would not be unusual for her to be up all night making a prom dress, a Halloween costume, a dress for Barbie or bibs for her grandchildren made from scraps.

Millie's kindness touched the lives of many, earning her a host of adoring friends. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her boundless love and generosity.

Millie is survived by her children, John and Jim Gray of Escondido, CA, Joan Montana of Double Oak, TX, Michael Gray of Denver, CO, and Jane Williams of San Diego, CA, along with her sister Eleanor Simmons of North Kingston, RI. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A devout member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Camillus, Millie's family kindly requests donations to the church's food pantry in her memory, in lieu of flowers.
