I was privileged to serve on the Kwansei Gakuin University School of Policy Studies faculty at the same time as Mikio. He was the School’s elder statesman, personifying the School’s values, contributing substantially to engagement of the School with other parts of the University and the outside world, and hosting visits of distinguished guests to the University. At the same time, Mikio was beloved by his students for his caring, attention, kindness, and helping them to obtain internships or employment with the international establishment. Mikio was also my dear friend, a true blessing for living in Japan, where fitting in can be a challenge for foreigners. I shall miss him.

Tajima sensei  was a truly inspiring figure—his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support touched the lives of so many students and colleagues. He had a rare gift for encouraging others and making everyone feel valued. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. My thoughts are with you and your family.
