Mike (Michael)'s obituary

After a valiant, hard fought battle with ALS, Michael “Mike” John Combs was called home to his eternal resting place on June 10, 2021. He was at home surrounded by his immediate family when the Lord called his name. Mike was born in 1959 to parents Robert and Bruna (Spagna) Combs at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents who all welcomed him into the Lord's kingdom.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Nicole, a true gift from God, and his two sons Jordan (San Jose, CA) and Riley (Denver, CO). Mike is also survived by his sister Deborah (husband Marty Leeth) of Huntsville, AL, and brother Patrick (wife Theresa) of Phoenix, AZ. Mike’s many aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces, both in the US and Italy will miss him dearly.
As the son of an enlisted serviceman (Army), Mike, the oldest of three siblings, spent his early years travelling with the family between Europe and the United States. He was soon joined by his sister Deb (1960) and younger brother Pat (1964). The family settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1968. Mike enjoyed an idyllic childhood filled with neighborhood campouts, late night hide-and-seek, garage dances, and baseball at the nearby park. Mike graduated from Mitchell High School in 1977.

Mike was an avid history buff, particularly WWII, who also loved music and sports. He was a talented athlete that enjoyed baseball, football, and golf. But his passion was soccer which he played in high school and in college as well as recreationally for many years. Mike graduated from the University of Northern Colorado, where he earned a degree in Marketing. He then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Denver. He found his calling as a Sales Executive and was awarded top salesman numerous times throughout his career.

Mike and Nicole’s deep love and commitment to one another, along with their strong faith, helped them build a beautiful, lasting marriage. Mike and Nicole were blessed with two precious sons. Jordan was born in 1993 followed by Riley in 1996. Together, Mike and Nicole raised their sons with an abundance of love, laughter, and travel. Mike was extremely proud of his sons and their accomplishments.

Mike was a beloved friend to so many. He was a devoted companion and husband to the love of his life, Nicole, who he so often referred to as “Beautiful.” He loved skiing, camping, and hunting with his two sons and his best friend, Mike. He possessed incredible charm, wit, and an outgoing personality. He had a passion for life, laughter, adventure, friends, and family. He embraced life each and every day, seeking challenges and never shying from risk.

His was a life well-lived and well-loved. Because of our shared faith, we celebrate the time we had with Mike here on earth and know that someday we will see him again. Until then, he will be terribly missed.
