Mick was born on June 26, 1945 to Darrell & Ina (Ferguson) Audiss in Burke, SD. Mick grew up on the family farm near Hamill, SD. He attended grade school in Hamill. From a very young age, Mick drove the family “school bus” (a pickup with enclosed back used to transport his siblings to & from school). Mick loved his years on the farm, driving tractor in the fields, doing chores, & feeding livestock. When Mick was in the 7th grade, the family moved to Chamberlain. Mick graduated from high school in 1963 from Chamberlain High School. He then joined the South Dakota National Guard serving for 12 years. He also attended South Dakota State College in Brookings for 1 year studying agriculture .
Mick married Betty Jean Schoenfelder of Kennebec , SD on March 26, 1966. To this union were born Douglas, Dewain, Lucinda Schultz (Larry), Darrell (Molly Studebaker), Elizabeth Long (Chris), & Daniel (Alyssa Smith).
Mick always loved hobby farming and gardening. Mick enjoyed running a small Allis-Chamlers tractors and New Holland implements dealership in Chamberlain for several years. In 1974 Mick & Betty moved their young family to Upton, WY. There on February 22, 1976 Mick asked Jesus to be his personal Lord and Savior. This was a major turning point in Mick’s life. He had a strong desire to see all of his loved ones & people he crossed paths with find this same assurance of an eternal home in Heaven. He often had gospel tracts in his pocket and looked for opportunities to share his faith with those he met. Mick & Betty moved many times over the years & eventually settled in Southern Iowa for approximately 25 years. They moved to Owatonna, Mn in 2018 to be near their daughters following Betty’s being injured in a tornado.
