In Loving Memory of Michelle Rose
Sunrise: November 29, 1964
Sunset: April 22, 2025
Michelle Rose passed peacefully into God’s embrace on April 22, 2025.
Born and raised in Trinidad, Michelle graduated from Providence Girls’ Catholic School in Port of Spain and then moved to the U.S. in 1983 to attend college in Maryland. She also attended cosmetology school to train to become a hairstylist. After living in Maryland for five years, Michelle was drawn to the West Coast and moved to San Diego, California. While working in the retail industry, she held side jobs at hair salons, eventually earning enough funds to open her own salon, Calypso, which was her pride and joy. Michelle’s gifted hands created beautiful hairstyles which brought confidence and encouragement to clients, family, and friends.
In 2008, Michelle was ready for a fresh start and new opportunities after recovering from major heart surgery. She moved to Las Vegas, where she later met her beloved husband Alek Buczkowski, who preceded her in death in April 2022.
Michelle’s strong faith was her guiding light. She often prayed with friends and family and found strength, guidance, and peace in the Bible. Michelle not only lived by its teachings, but kindly shared them and faith-related books with others who needed encouragement. Michelle also welcomed when friends and family reciprocated and generously offered spiritual comfort and counsel to her.
Michelle is survived by her parents, Rita Solomon and Oswin Rose, her siblings and several other relatives, and cherished friends in Trinidad, the U.S., Grenada, Canada, and the U.K. who now mourn her passing while celebrating her life.
A memorial service for Michelle will be held on Saturday, November 1 in the Washington, DC area at Pinecrest Local Park Building, 301 St. Lawrence Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20901. A memorial in Trinidad will also be planned in 2026; the date and additional details will be shared when arrangements are finalized. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests planting a tree or flowers in Michelle’s memory to honor her love of plants, or supporting the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative or a charity that uplifts others in faith or beauty.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created to assist with expenses for the U.S. and Trinidad memorials. Please click here to contribute: https://gofund.me/59f2c1ecb. Any contribution amount that can be spared would be greatly appreciated by Michelle’s family.
May Michelle rest in everlasting peace, her vibrant spirit forever alive in the memories of her loved ones.
