Eulogy —
Katelyn "Kat" "Katie" McClanahan
What I wanted to say during my eulogy but couldn't:
Minutes, hours, and days go by and there are no words and too many all at once. A head rush of emotions, never a dry eye in the room. I think God even cried for her when she left us.
My mom was a soldier who has been through wars and has defeated the masses. She was able to carry the weight of the entire world on her shoulders and yet walk hand in hand with grace. She was hilarious, silly, unfathomably organized, the type of beauty that lit up a room, routine oriented riddled with spontaneity, gave the best advice, and had an unforgettable laugh. She was the no-holds-barred type. She fought tooth and nail across the roughest of waters and with a serious vengeance. My mom’s wings were clipped when she wanted to soar.
She taught me everything I’ve ever known. Just before she was intubated for ventilation she wrote us a note, and 2 days later when I said my final goodbye to her, the nurse handed it over and read it to me: “i ... My mom was the unbreakable foundation beneath our feet, a smile that beamed through even the darkest forests of life. She toiled her love for all those around her til the bitter end. My mom was never just one part of the moment, she was the entirety of it. Her mark is indelible, our earth-side angel. Every morning the sun had to relearn how to outshine her, and even then it still wasn’t bright enough.
To say nothing of the amazing gift she gave me in being my mom.
Rest in peace, mom. I don't even know how to go on or start life without you. Read less
