Michael's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Charles Townsend Webb, who left us on June 4, 2024, far too soon. Whether you knew him as Michael, Mike, Mikey, Webby, Ferret, or something else, Michael was a beloved son, a cherished brother, and above all else a loyal friend.

Michael was born on March 29, 1991, in Minneapolis, to David and Nancy (Townsend) Webb. From an early age, he demonstrated love of learning, warmth and compassion that lasted throughout his life. A standout goalie, his athletic prowess shone at Edina, Shattuck-St. Mary’s School and Academy of Holy Angels, earning him accolades at the state and national level—and the respect and camaraderie of his fellow players, many of whom remained his closest friends.

After the passing of his father, Michael, his brother, and their mother took on the family restaurant, the Good Day Café in Golden Valley. The restaurant reflected all the things that were important to Michael: a place where friends and family could share stories, make memories, and take time to be together.

Although he loved golfing, fishing, and long drives, family was the center of Michael’s world. He adored his niece and nephew—who adored him just as much. He cherished his Golden Retriever, Winston—a companion that went everywhere (and ate everything) that Michael did. Michael’s father was his guiding light, and Michael carried his memory with him in all that he did. We take comfort in knowing they are reunited in the hereafter, sharing long-awaited stories, laughter, and a drink.

Despite his sometimes quiet demeanor, Michael was incredibly attentive, empathetic and insightful. Many remember the best man speech he gave for his brother. His words were a true testament to his character—loyal, sincere, and thoughtful. He is dearly missed.

Michael is survived by his loving mother Nancy (Dennis Anspach); devoted brother David (Carys); niece Seren and nephew David; faithful dog Winston; and many other family members and friends who were family to him.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on June 24, 2024 at the Good Day Café in Golden Valley, where we will raise a glass in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to the Michael Webb Memorial Scholarship Fund.
