Michael's obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael Jay Smith on June 15, 2025, at the age of 64. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and his absence leaves a space that can never be filled.
Michael was a hardworking man, gifted in carpentry and craftsmanship, always doing his best to provide for his family. It may not have been perfect, but his love and dedication were unwavering. Everything he did, he did with his family in mind.
While he wasn’t born in Sedona, Arizona, his heart belonged there. His fondest memories were of summers spent at his Granny’s house on Oak Creek, surrounded by family, laughter, and the beauty of the red rocks. That place shaped him, and he carried its spirit with him throughout his life.
Michael loved his children and grandchildren fiercely. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a one of a kind sense of humor; able to make anyone laugh, especially himself. His laughter was infectious, his wit sharp, and his stories unforgettable.
He also had a deep love for country music and line dancing. With a cowboy hat on his head and boots on his feet, Michael could tear up any dance floor, moving with the same joy and confidence that he brought to everything he did. Wherever the music played, Michael danced, and he made sure those around him were smiling, too.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine La Joie-Smith; his Aunt Helen Williams; his children Michael Garcia (partner Rachel Bettini), Lindsey Nichols (spouse David Nichols), Daniel Smith (wife Wendy Smith), Jordan Smith, Noah Smith (wife Valeria Rascon- Smith), Rachel Smith (partner Jason Flores) and Samantha Bradley (husband Randy Bradley); his cherished grandchildren Madeline Garcia, Maxtin Garcia, Bowie Nichols, Ezra Nichols, Bryant Smith, Kensley Smith, Vanessa Smith, ArJay Flores, Jackson Bradley, Ethan Bradley, and Owen Bradley, along with a granddaughter on the way. His siblings, Denise Smith, Becky Harris, Bill Smith, and Tim Balik, also survived him.
Michael is now reunited in heaven with his parents, Charlotte Thompson and EJ Smith, and his sister, Cathy Smith, as well as his grandparents and many aunts and uncles. We find comfort in knowing they are together again.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on July 20th, 2025, in Fallbrook, CA, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and love in his honor.
Michael was truly one of a kind, and we are proud to call him ours. His love, humor, strength, and dance moves will remain in our hearts, always and forever.
