Mike's obituary
Michael “Mike” Rex Beck, 63, of Minneapolis, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 25th 2024 of heart related issues.
Born in Maquoketa, Iowa to Rex and Gail Beck, he spent his childhood as a part of a large farm family with his brothers and sisters. Mike baled hay on the farm, and loved listening to the group Chicago while working alongside his siblings. He loved planting all sorts of flowers, playing music in the marching band, and riding bikes on the highway into Delmar, all while being barefoot and (often times) holding a camera.
After attending Clarke and Loras Colleges in NE Iowa, he moved out west to California where he started his career in mortgage banking. In 1984, he married Marie and remained married for 22 years. After moving to Minnesota together, they had two children, Alex and Matt, who have always been his greatest achievement. He loved living in Minneapolis and considered it his home. He worked several different positions at Hennepin Theater Trust and Lunds & Byerly’s where he loved serving his Downtown community.
Mike had a passionate personality. He also had many interests and hobbies. He had a love of music including listening and playing. Oftentimes he was found at a piano playing a song or beating his fingers on a countertop to a tune. Mike enjoyed being behind the lens and was often seen photographing his family and friends. His love for live theater started at an early age and continued to grow throughout his lifetime. He passed this love on to his sons and friends. Mike is preceded in death by his mother Gail and is survived by his father Rex, siblings Linda (Rodger), Deb (Mark), Tom (Susan), Jeff (Jennie), and children Alex (Alexa) and Matt (Emily). He is also survived by his only grandchild Eloise, his cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
