We are deeply saddened by the loss of Tataia Mike.
He was an extraordinary man, an inspiring author, a wonderful friend, and someone whose kindness and generosity touched our lives in the most meaningful way.
We will always cherish the beautiful memories we shared, celebrating birthdays together, attending school presentations of his books, and the warmth of Father’s Day moments spent in his presence. He opened his home and his heart to our family, giving us summers full of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
He will be missed more than words can express, but his spirit, his stories, and his love will remain with us forever.
Tataia Mike will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Love, Leone Family

Kelly, Rachel, Mick, and Regina, We are so sad that Mike has left this world! But every day he left it a better place with his writing, speaking, pranks and jokes. I have this memory of the times when Mike laughed at his own jokes--I mean really laughed! We have loved having Mike in our lives from the time he hosted us in Homer when he first met Kelly--a very generous and fun tour guide! And I'll never forget the time we all got "escorted out" of the CMU homecoming game--just a few pranks..... I'm so glad I got the chance to see Mike speak recently in Port Huron, doing what he loved best. Mike will always have a warm spot in my heart; he truly was a good and kind man, a wonderful example of what a husband and father can be. We will miss him always. Love, Art and Tammy

My sympathies to Mike's family. I will sorely miss his humorous anecdotes posted on Facebook. Mike made us folks with a Homer connection so very proud. As Mike's teacher and coach I have lost a dear friend.

We all liked Mike. I think early on in high school, we all knew that Mike would have a career in journalism in some form. From being an announcer at sports events, photography and commentary in our local newspaper. We shook our heads and laughed at his silly antics which made us like him even more. I have complete admiration and respect for what he accomplished in life.

My deepest, most sincere condolences to you and your family. I’m a school librarian in Wisconsin. My students love his books. I always loved his sense of humor online. I may not have known him personally, but I enjoyed his wit. I especially loved his unfailing humor to support his Michigan sports teams. (Sarcasm heavily implied) The Cheesehead in me knew he secretly cheered on The Pack! Thanks for the fun, the joy, and all the stories Michael!
