Michael's obituary

Michael (Mike) Gerard O’Regan passed away peacefully with his family close beside on June 13, 2019. He entered his heavenly home after a courageous fight with metastatic cancer.

Born in San Francisco on August 15, 1957, he was the second of three boys of Richard (Doc) and Dorothy (Dot) O’Regan. Growing up, Mike was an avid and competitive basketball player, leading Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo as a forward (where he was the star of the first Jungle game in 1975). He went on to graduate from San Francisco State University with a degree in business, which served him well as a business owner for over 30 years, where he was loved by his partners, employees, and customers.

Mike was blessed with two children of his own, Brian in 1987 and Kimberly in 1989.

In 1997, in a fateful encounter in San Francisco airport, he locked eyes with a young woman and mustered the courage to ask her to join him that evening for a drink. Four years later, he and Debbie were married, enjoying 22 years together traveling, playing golf, and spending time with friends and family. Mike and Debbie were members of Crow Canyon Country Club in Danville, California for a short time then moved to Rancho Mirage, California. As a member of Mission Hills Country club they played golf and made lasting friendships. Mike will be missed by so many.

Mike loved many things, but some of his favorites were golf, good wine, loud laughter, homemade breakfast (potatoes were his specialty!), and Maui sunsets. However, what Mike enjoyed most was spending time with, and doing things for others. Full of great stories and an infectious laugh, Mike cherished the time with his friends, family, grandkids, and his wife.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Debra, his two children Brian O’Regan (Tricia) and Kimberly O’Regan, step-daughter Jennifer Ponsford (Ryan), step-son Ryan Willard (Shelly) and six grandchildren who will forever cherish the time they spent with “Papa Mike”. He is also survived by his two brothers, Richard O’Regan (Judy) and Daniel O’Regan (Carol) and their two children, Kelly and Scott.

Though he was taken far too soon from all of us, he will be remembered as a person full of life, thoughtful, giving, loving and caring. We are blessed to have shared a piece of life with him, no matter how short or long.

The family gives thanks to all of their dear friends and family that have given so much support this past year. A celebration of life and reception will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Crow Canyon Country Club, 711 Silver Lake Drive, Danville, CA. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mike’s name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org) an organization dedicated to fighting the world’s toughest cancer through research, clinical initiatives, patient services, and advocacy.
