Mike's obituary
Michael Lee Naber, 60, of Dysart, Iowa, passed away on October 24th, 2024 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Mike was best known for his quiet, gentle and laid back nature, so laid back in fact, that he was late for EVERYTHING! We often joked that he would be late for his own funeral! Known for his generosity, caring heart and ability to fix anything, he was the one so many called when they needed help with projects, car problems or any handyman task.
Michael is survived by his sisters, Shelly Johnson (Eugene, OR) and Shari (Randy) Nesbit (Clive, IA), brothers Aric (Clare)Naber (Portand, OR) and Darren Naber (Cedar Rapids, IA). He also leaves behind his son Jon (Kasie) McCoy (Dysart, IA), step-son Jacob Petersen (Dysart, IA), step-daughter Jessie (Jeremy)Hartman (Dysart, IA), step-mother Judy Naber (Des Moines, IA) and 2 step sisters, Cami Brown and Kim (Frank) Tenborg (both of Des Moines, IA). Mike had many nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own and was proud to be called Papa by Shawna, Jacob, Jonathon, Caleb, Braelynn, Brynlee MCcoy and Aubri and Otis Hartman.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Naber, and mother, Betty Naber.
Mike was born on October 28th, 1963 in Cedar Falls, IA. He graduated from George Washington High School, Cedar Rapids, IA in 1982. On September 7th, 1996, Mike married Kim McCoy of Dysart, IA who took amazing care of him to the end. He spent the majority of his career with Manatt’s as a sand plant/dredge operator and supervisor. A life-long Minnesota Vikings fan, Michael enjoyed an array of outdoor recreational activities. These included trapping, fishing, mushroom hunting, rock hunting and anything outdoors. He was a frequent visitor to flea markets and antique shops and collector of all things. Mike loved to travel and had a special fondness for Port Aransas, Texas. One of his unique interests was his vast collection of rocks (geodes, agates, fossils), which he joyfully scattered in our yards every time he visited. Michael also had a profound passion for music, attending many concerts, and held an impressive collection of CDs and albums.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: A visitation for Mike will be held at the Dysart United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 10:00am - 11:00am. A celebration of life will follow at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made out to the Naber Family to help with funeral related expenses. Michael's memory will widely be remembered as a legacy of quiet strength, generosity, and his love for the simple joys in life.
