Mike's obituary
Michael (Mike) Scott Mower August 24, 1946 – September 30, 2025
Michael Scott Mower, born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 24, 1946, was the beloved son of Elmer (Joe) Clarence Mower and Betty Virginia Morton Mower. Michael spent his childhood in Menlo Park, where he and his brothers filled their days with forts, games of Cowboys and Indians, hidden treasures, and baseball in the neighborhood fields.
Later, after his parents divorced, he moved to Coronado with his mother, Betty, and his siblings. In time, his father remarried Deon Mower, and Michael was blessed with an additional brother, James (Jim) Mower.
Before serving in the Vietnam War, Michael married Julie, and together they welcomed two sons, Tommy and Robbie. He joined the U.S. Army, where he worked on aircraft armaments in Vietnam. That experience, while difficult, became part of the strong and resilient man he grew to be.
Michael was later married to Theresa, and during that time he lovingly embraced the role of father to her children, Ron and Beth.
On October 22, 1983, Michael married the love of his life, Gail, in their Caldwell home, surrounded by family and friends. Together they built a life filled with joy, laughter, pets, international travel—including some of their favorite places like Costa Rica—and enduring love. Family time was often spent in Smiths Ferry, Idaho, with their best friend, Loren Weston, camping and making memories in their beloved mountains.
In retirement, Michael and Gail also enjoyed spending several summers at the SISCRA campground in Donnelly, Idaho, where they made lasting friendships, cherished the beauty of the outdoors, and filled their days with campfires, laughter, and the company of their camping besties, Ken and Ava.
Michael’s adventurous spirit often took him to the water. He lived on his boat, the Chi Chi, in Coronado Bay and cherished trips to Baja, Mexico, with his dear friend, Bob. Yet nothing brought him greater joy than his family. In 2021, during a birthday boat ride, his stepdaughter asked him to officially adopt her. They proudly and lovingly made that bond official later that year.
Those who knew Michael will always remember his simple daily joys—his love of Chips Ahoy cookies and sweet tea, enjoyed faithfully every day. He also had an excellent green thumb, nurturing plants and gardens throughout his life. In recent years, Michael bravely faced cancer, enduring treatments with incredible courage.
Michael is survived by his wife, Gail; his brothers, Steve, Patrick, and James Mower; his sons, Rob (Denise), Ron, Tom (Janet), and Carl; and his daughter, Destry (Adrian); and his grandchildren: Brooklin, Keona, Brandon, Johnathan, Tommy Jr., Brittany, Ariel, Karl (Carlee), Hunter, Tyler, Hayden (Jake), Jakob, Jayden, and Paige. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Michael Scott Mower II, Bella, Giovanni, Armani, and Axel.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, stepmother, and his daughter, Merry Mower. Michael will be remembered for his adventurous heart, his laughter, his kindness, and his devotion to those he loved.
