Michael Edward Morrissey, 67, passed away on April 24, 2023 from complications of metastatic melanoma. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Morrissey (Miller), currently living in West Richland, Washington, his stepson, Matt Fowler of Seattle, Washington, his brother John Morrissey of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, his sister Susan Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada, and his nephew Daniel Morrissey. Michael was retired the past two years from his position as an EMT Security Officer for over 35 years at Circus Circus Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, the last 16 years of which he worked in the Adventuredome indoor theme park, assisting guests and families with different needs such as medical issues (saving several lives while waiting for EMTs to arrive), injuries, reuniting families who have been temporarily separated from their group and maintaining a calm, helpful presence. One of Michael's major personal interests outside his career was his love of dogs and his efforts to create more fulfilling human-dog bonds through educating dog guardians in recognizing dogs' nonverbal language and communicating their expectations to their companions. To this end, he worked with his beloved rescue Golden Retriever Finney as his demo dog and received his Dog Trainer certificate from the Animal Behavior College in California in 2007 after online study and internship with the Nevada SPCA in Las Vegas at their shelter to facilitate more successful adoptions. Michael's other life interests have included scuba diving for lobster and abalone off the coast of Catalina as a young man, learning carpentry and creating furniture with his best friend Richard Henry and Richard's late father Bob, Michael's mentor, as well as several years of learning and practicing Kempo Butoku Kai Karate in Las Vegas with one of his best friends Lloyd Kim as Sensei.
