Mike's obituary
Michael Anthony Melito, 49, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at his home in Pittsville, Maryland. Born on April 6, 1976, in Parsippany, New Jersey, Michael would have celebrated his 50th birthday this year.
Michael spent his early years in Parsippany, New Jersey, where he attended Parsippany Hills High School, graduating with the Class of 1994. He went on to earn his degree from Salisbury University in 1999, studying Earth Science with a focus in Geoenvironmental Science. He built a dedicated career in geological services, spending many years working in the field he cared deeply about.
He is survived by his son, Ryan Melito; his mother, Jennifer Melito; and his brothers, Christopher Melito and Andrew Melito. He is also survived by his niece, Abby Melito, and nephew, Keller Melito. He was preceded in death by his father, Matthew Melito.
Michael was deeply caring and loved his family in a way that was steady and real, even if it was sometimes quiet or from a distance. He was someone who came and went, but always mattered deeply to those who knew him. Gentle, easygoing, and unpretentious, Michael lived life at his own pace. He could settle into any space like he’d always been there, and appreciated even the smallest acts of generosity.
He was drawn to the water, a true coastal spirit. A surfer, a fishing enthusiast, and a regular in Seaside Heights, Michael felt most at home near the shore. More of a listener at first, he would open up into thoughtful, honest conversation if you took the time, with tons of random facts that you never knew existed. He loved a good laugh and simple pleasures, and he never needed much to be content.
Michael was especially gentle and kind with his niece and nephew, and his bond with his son Ryan was filled with lighthearted moments, playing arcade games, rounds of Uno, and cracking silly jokes together.
His soft spirit will be missed. He will always have a place at Seaside, on the boardwalk, checking out the waves. And he will always live on in the memories he created with those who knew and loved him.
