Michael's obituary

“A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam and for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world. But then it flies again and though we wish it could have stayed… we feel lucky to have seen it.” (anon) Michael Patrick Maloney suddenly passed away on November 19, 2019, in Marin California at the young age of 39.

Michael (aka Mike) was born in Palo Alto, April 20, 1980. He was funny, kind and so insightful. Among his many talents, he was a gifted writer who wrote several scripts and a novel. He also created significant content for his passion projects. Two of them being, a podcast called “In Development” as well as his new business, “Two Story”. He loved watching and playing most sports and was a die hard fan for his Bay Area Teams (The Dubs, Niners, and Giants).

Michael attended Roy Cloud Elementary in Redwood City and Woodside Middle School in Woodside. His family then moved to Marin where he attended Marin Catholic High School. For college, he moved to Los Angeles and attended UCLA graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Michael went on to receive his Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Screen and Television at the USC.

Eventually, Mike moved back to the Bay Area to be closer to family. Over the years he worked hard at many different jobs including teaching. What he didn't have to work at was inspiring others, encouraging others and sharing moments of love and friendship with all those he came in touch with.

Michael’s father Jim “Junior/Ruben” Rahrick passed in August of 2019. Michael is survived by his mother Eileen Maloney Swink, his other dad Dave Swink and brother Colin Swink. He is also survived by his large extended family including aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as his many close friends. He truly touched so many people’s lives. All who knew him will miss his presence deeply.

Michael’s family and friends will gather for a private and intimate celebration of his life in January 2020.
