Michael Douglas Lister, beloved father, brother, and devotee of Krishna, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at the age of 69.

Born on February 25, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Michael lived a life rich with love, adventure, and deep devotion. He was a man who found joy in the natural world—on the water, among the trees, and under the open sky. He also had an artistic side and would often express his appreciation for acting, cinema, and oil painting. He loved sharing tales of his encounters with actors and colorful characters, always with a twinkle in his eye and a storyteller’s flair.

Michael was a devoted father to his son, Sonny Lister, and a caring brother to Robert, Brian, and Doug Lister. His family remembers him as a tireless caregiver, always putting others before himself.

In spiritual life, Michael was a dedicated devotee of Lord Krishna. He first joined the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in 1976 in New Orleans and went on to serve in many ways over the decades. Eleven years ago, he began pujari service, gave classes, and distributed books with unwavering enthusiasm. His service culminated in his role as president of ISKCON Alabama, and even into retirement, he continued to serve Godin wholeheartedly across Alabama and Mississippi.

Michael’s presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His parting words were often a cheerful "Live long and prosper," or the joyful greeting, "Hare Krishna!"

He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, storytelling, and spiritual dedication that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
