Many of my fondest childhood memories involved the vacations and gatherings with the Hughes family - Mike, Donna, Shawn, Melissa, and Brian.

My earliest memories hold recollections of snow sledding in Big Bear and riding motorcycles in the Mojave desert.

Later, our families convened for nearly a decade of annual trips to Bass Lake, the most idyllic of places and times during the 1980s.

Later still, there were Super bowl gatherings, New Years eve parties, and concerts at Irvine meadows to see the Eagles and Jimmy Buffett.

So many of my childhood experiences and coming of age was defined by these family events, and Mike was always at the center - with his Tom Selleck good looks, a generous spirit, and gregarious laugh.

I consider myself tremendously fortunate to have had Mike as both a close relative and a longtime family friend.

He was a family patriarch in the best sense of the word: stern but caring, instructive but understanding, protective yet always encouraging independence.

As time carried on and our families moved in various directions, I saw less of uncle Mike, but he always remained in my thoughts and memories.

The last time I saw Mike was at my mothers memorial service.  I was busy putting together a tribute for the occasion when I suddenly heard a familiar voice. I looked up and saw uncle Mike grinning warmly at me.  He gave me a big hug and we caught up briefly.

Words cannot adequately express the place that uncle Mike holds in my heart and mind, but im truly grateful that he was a part of my family.

I know his legacy amd spirit  will live on through all us who knew and loved him.

Thank you Uncle Mike, for everything.

God bless.

My condolences to Michael's family.

I liked him the moment I met him.

He was a man of integrity, courage, and strength.

I am so grateful for his friendship and will truly miss him.

My condolences to Michael's family. I first met Michael when I was interviewed by Michael for employment with H&H Wood Products in 1978.  I came to work for Michael and his father Mike Sr.

I was asked to come to work for Michael when he had spun off a new company of Custom Quality Finish Carpentry in 1985 after having left employment with his father Mike Sr.  I have worked for Michael every since with a 7 year absence from 2007 to 2014.  Our relationship has been one of friend and coworker.  I and my wife Anne had a very special son named Brandon with special needs.  Both Michael and his father have always extended love and compassion in helping us deal with health issues of Brandon.  Brandon went home to be with the Lord on February 24th of this year.  Michael was intending to come to his Celebration of Life service, but was unable to.  I am sure that both Michael and Brandon are in heaven amazed at the new bodies that the Lord has given them both without blemish or abnormalities that hole either of them back.  I wish the whole Hughes family as well as Donna God's peace that passes all understanding and look forward to the day when we can all rejoice in heaven one day with our Lord Jesus Christ.  Sincerely, Joe & Anne Tusant

Dear Donna and Family,

My heartfelt condolences to each of you on Mike's passing. I know Mike will remain in your hearts forever as you reflect on a lifetime of cherished memories.

I've known Mike and Donna for over sixty years!  I met Donna during our first year of high school and Mike  soon thereafter. I quickly realized Mike was pursuing my BFF with his charm, wit and devilish grin.  My memories are filled with Mike's contagious laugh, youthful mischief and his knack to be the life of the party!!

May God's grace bring you strength and comfort through this difficult time.

Love, Sherry Tierney

RIP Mike! It was a joy working with you and our small volunteer team of La Cresta Trailblazers to create memorable fundraisers and leave a beautiful trail legacy here in La Cresta. You were a good friend and great man. See you on the other side. 💗

My husband Zack and I have had some wonderful, memorable times with Donna and Mike.

Over the years living in La Cresta we had dinner parties together, Social Club Events,  we rode horses together and even went for a vacation in Kauii.

They celebrated their Anniversary and I celebrated my Birthday.

Mike, You're going to be missed by all of us. Zack and I think of you often. Thank you for being a great friend. ❤️

Our sincere condolences for your family. May he rest in peace.
My dear friend Donna and family.  I have had the privilege of knowing Mike for over 40 years.  We have shared many wonderful laughs and memories.  I will miss him.  Hit ‘em long and straight in Heaven Mikey!! Love, Julie Kent

Donna,

I want you to know that my thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. Mike had a special bond with my late husband Bobby, being practically like brothers. I will always cherish the unique and irreplaceable connection they shared. Mike was also a friend to me, he was incredibly supportive during the time of Robert’s passing, always there to listen, and I truly appreciated that.

I hope that all the beautiful memories you’ve created with Mike while traveling and durning the many get-togethers we all shared will bring you some comfort and peace in the days to come. Please remember, I’m just a call away if you need anything at all. I’m deeply sorry for the pain you’re going through right now.

You’re in my thoughts and prayers,

KT

Marty and I are so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. We know this has been a long and painful ordeal for your whole family and we are hopeful you can find a sense of peace knowing he is now at peace himself.
