Michael's obituary
Michael Robert Krol, Esq., Midlothian, VA.
Born November 11, 1981.
Died April 1, 2025.
Michael was born in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He was raised in Macomb Township where he attended Lutheran North High School where he played on the soccer team. His family moved to Holland, Michigan, being in the inaugural class to graduate at Black River High School. He attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College, then earned his BA from Western Michigan University, and his JD at William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Michael was a sweet boy who showed great empathy toward others. He did well in his early years of school, participating in an accelerated learning program. He was a hard-worker with relentless ambition. From the time he was able to work, he always had a job. While going to law school, he was able to raise 2 kids and work 2 jobs. Once he set his mind to something, it was going to happen. He landed a job straight out of law school and quickly became one of the best plaintiff attorneys in the area. After only 12 to 13 years practicing as an attorney, he decided to venture out on his own. Along with his partner, Robert Maury, Esq., he founded the law firm Maury and Krol, PLLC. Michael was a much beloved son and was loved and respected by his staff and associates and recognized for exceptionalism in his profession. It took immense courage to do this without any guaranteed income or safety net and 4 children to raise on his own, including 2 in college. His unwavering confidence drove him to succeed, with the practice thriving for the past 3 years. Michael contributed to the culture at his firm, which was incredible. He was the heart of the firm, balancing a professional demeanor with a silly side that made the workplace unique. He secured many verdicts and built a reputation as someone hundreds of clients could turn to for guidance. He was always respected and known for his unwavering dedication and valuable advice.
A distinguished lawyer and litigator, beloved father to Haley Rebecca, Phoenix Renee, Brennan Michael, Everett "Fuppet" Finley. In addition to his children he is survived by his parents, Robert and Nancy, sister, Michelle (Joshua), and grandmother Marilyn LaForest, and his beloved dog, “Princess” Gracie.
He was deeply involved in the lives of his children. With Haley (23), Michael shared his love of running, his work ethic, and setting and achieving goals. With Phoenix (20), whenever she faced challenges, he was there to motivate her and remind her of what she was capable of. His steady support made a big difference in helping her stay focused and get through it all. As a baby and young child, Phoenix was inseparable from her Dad. Brennan (13), loved having his Dad coach his football team. Despite his busy schedule, Dad always made sure to find time to support Brennan and his teammates. Michael’s boys have gotten their love of goofing, their affection from their siblings, and empathy and care for others from their father. Everett (11), loved hiking with his Dad at Shenandoah because it was a chance for them to bond through this shared experience. He taught all his children to never give up and learn from their mistakes. They all share his sense of humor and and fierce commitment to each other.
He was creative, open-minded, and loved reading Garfield and Far Side comics. He played soccer from a young age and continued throughout his life. Michael loved hiking and spending time outdoors. He was a devoted father, who was incredibly affectionate and put his kids first. He enjoyed taking them with him on hikes, camping, and taking his son, Brennan to the gym. He enjoyed running and regularly participated in multiple marathons. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of his life will be held at the law offices of Maury and Krol, 14415 Justice Drive, Midlothian, Virginia on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 2pm until 6pm. Family and friends are welcome. BYOB (Bring Your Own Beanie) and casual dress attire requested by family in memory of Michael.
