Michael's obituary
Michael O’Neal Key, Jr. age 54, of Lexington, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5,
2024 surrounded by family and friends at the home of his daughter.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Michael’s life at Paw-Paw’s Place, 2004 N. Fayetteville
Street, Asheboro on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 2 pm, where we will enjoy his favorite foods and
drinks, and share memories of him. He loved Carolina Blue, so please wear blue in his honor.
Michael was born on July 31, 1970 and was a native of Randolph County, later moving to Davidson
County, where he spent the past 20 years. He was a caring father, brother, and friend.
As a father, he offered unconditional love and support, and lots of laughter. Michael was happy to spend
time with his family and his friends. Michael was the proud grandfather to 17. He always loved computers,
music, model cars, and “life-sized” cars, especially his Honda CRXs. He was passionate about sharing
his love for Jesus.
He is survived by his mother Carolyn Hill and stepdad Greg of Lexington; stepmom Janet Key of
Asheboro; daughters; Krysta Key of Mooresville; Alicia Key and her husband Justin Olmstead of
Statesville; Haley Key of Kenansville; step-daughter Jessica Lanham of Lexington; his 17 grandchildren;
sister Mary-Belle Allen and her husband Ron of Richlands; sister Jennifer and her husband Stewart of
Asheboro; stepbrother James Hill of Lexington; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by father, Michael O’Neal Key, Sr.; brother, Anthony Victor Key; and great-grandmother Shirley
Crotts.
