Michael's obituary
April 26, 1943 – March 5, 2023 Michael James Jordan of Bellflower, CA, passed away at his home on March 5, 2023, after a brief illness.
Mike was born on April 26, 1943 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, the only child of Marshall J. Jordan and Helen Virginia Fay, both schoolteachers.
After graduating in 1961 from Bergen Catholic High School in New Jersey, Mike went on to earn his B.S. in 1965 from Saint Joseph’s College in Indiana, majoring in Biology and Chemistry. He continued west to California, and received his M.B.A. in 1967 from Santa Clara University, which kickstarted a lifelong interest in business finance.
After SCU, Mike landed his first job with Lockheed Aircraft’s Burbank office as a marketing analyst. In 1971, he was hired by Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach as a procurement analyst, and four years later received an offer from Hughes Aircraft Company to manage the company’s foreign exchange. He worked with Hughes until late in the 1980’s, when he returned to school and obtained his paralegal certificate. Over the next 20 years Mike worked as a legal contractor for several state and private firms, providing excellent support for their litigation teams.
Mike was always proud of his school associations, and was a generous supporter of Bergen High through the Crusader Legacy Society. He was a regular contributor to Saint Josephs and SCU, and maintained close friendships with classmates from all three schools throughout his life.
Mike loved to maintain bonds with his family; he tirelessly tracked the lives of disparate aunts, uncles, cousins and their children, and emailed pictures and updates to keep us all in touch. He regularly sent cards and gifts, and he never forgot a birthday, anniversary or graduation.
Mike was a cancer survivor, a CNBC devotee and an investor. He loved music, especially jazz and big bands. He also loved Taylor’s Steak House (a Christmas tradition with his cousin Casey’s family) and The Shack (a more frequent treat with local friends). He was a devout Catholic, and regularly attended the 6:30 am service in his local parish of Saint Dominic Savio. He was an avid walker, rarely using his car except for trips to see family and friends.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Marshall and Helen Jordan. He is survived by eight cousins and their families, and by the many close friendships he nurtured throughout his life. He will be remembered for his tremendous devotion to family and friends, his inner strength and perseverance, his kindness and his generosity. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mike left meticulous instructions for his cremation and burial at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. A graveside service will be held, and all are invited. Please refer to the Events tab for more information on the time and place, as it becomes available. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending contributions to The Servants for Relief from Incurable Cancer in Hawthorne, New York, which took good care of Mike’s mother during her final illness.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date, and visitors of this website will be notified when details are available. Please refer to the Events tab for more information.
