Mike's obituary
Michael Alfred “Mike” Jarvis
July 26, 1947 – March 7, 2026
Michael Alfred “Mike” Jarvis, age 78, passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2026 in Howards Grove, Wisconsin.
Mike was born July 26, 1947 in Menominee, Michigan while his parents were living in Marinette, Wisconsin. He was the son of Dorothy M. Rennes and Stewart Leo Jarvis, who proudly served the community as Chief of Police in Peshtigo, Wisconsin. Mike spent part of his childhood in Peshtigo before moving to Greendale after his mother remarried. He attended Greendale High School, where he distinguished himself as a state swimmer.
Mike built a long and steady career with Briggs & Stratton Corporation, where he worked for 32 years. While he was dedicated to his work, music was always at the heart of his life.
An accomplished drummer, Mike performed with several bands throughout the Milwaukee area, sharing his love of rhythm and live music with audiences for many years. Later in life he also enjoyed playing with his church worship band. His passion for music led him to create and operate his own mobile DJ service, Platter Chatter, which became a sought-after part of celebrations, weddings, and community events for over 29 years.
Mike loved music in many forms, but he especially enjoyed the sounds of Roy Orbison, the Statler Brothers, and country music from every era. He had a natural gift for bringing people together through music and laughter.
Throughout his life Mike was known for his energy and enthusiasm. Over the years he worked as a lifeguard, became an accomplished roller skater, and spent eight memorable years teaching country line and partner dancing alongside Susan. He also proudly graduated from the Citizens Police Academy in Germantown, Wisconsin, reflecting his lifelong respect for community service and law enforcement.
Adventure was another important part of Mike’s life. After retiring from Briggs & Stratton, he enjoyed traveling extensively on his Gold Wing motorcycle, riding throughout Wisconsin and exploring roads across Texas, Arizona, and California. Mike and Susan also spent five years embracing life on the road in an RV, traveling south to Texas or Arizona during the winters.
Mike enjoyed working outdoors and connecting with people. He spent 11 summers as grounds maintenance and pool manager at Plymouth Rock Campground, where his steady work, friendly personality, and sense of humor were appreciated by campers and staff alike.
Mike married Susan Radke on May 27, 2000, and together they shared many years filled with music, travel, dancing, and adventure. He remained close with his son Michael Stewart Jarvis and warmly welcomed Susan’s twin daughters, Amy Kottke and Katie Gentry, and his son-in-law Corey Gentry, as part of his family.
Those who knew Mike remember his easygoing spirit, his love of music, and his ability to make people smile. One of his favorite bits of humor came at restaurants—immediately after a server finished taking his order, Mike would grin and ask, “Is it done yet?” The question almost always drew laughter and a playful response, which Mike enjoyed just as much as the meal itself.
Mike will be remembered for the music he shared, the roads he traveled, the dance floors he filled, and the laughter he brought to the people around him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
