Michael's obituary
Michael "Mike" Fulkerson, 64, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on June 4, 2025, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, due to a 15 year battle of heart failure stemming from a challenging personal journey. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by family. He was born on December 19, 1960, to Pat (Rose) Fees and was raised by both Pat and Gary Fees. Mike was raised in Polk City, Iowa, and lived the majority of his life in the Des Moines Metro area.
Mike was a proud graduate of North Polk High School, Class of 1979. He dedicated his life to working with his hands, pursuing a lifelong passion in the general construction field. Outside of work, Mike was an avid fan of hobby racing and NASCAR. He found joy in fishing, his love for good food, and, most notably, in recounting captivating stories from his past especially those where he found himself in a bit of trouble or managed to narrowly escape it. Mike possessed a unique sense of humor and a spirit that often challenged the conventional rules and laws.
Mike loved his family especially his children, Michelle, Jacob, and Jessica, fiercely. Though his personal struggles often created distance, he yearned for a deeper connection and often sought their forgiveness. His life was a testament to the complex nature of human relationships, marked by a constant desire for redemption and love for his family, even when he struggled to be the person he wanted to be.
He is survived by his children, Michelle Schultz, Jacob Schultz, and Jessica Schultz; his grandchildren, Braden Veverka, Joszef Schultz, and Malaney Veverka; his siblings, Scott and Tammy Fulkerson, Brian Fulkerson, Shelly and Travis Spidle, and Missy Fees; his father, Gary Fees; nieces (Jaice Wiseman, who was with him at the time of his passing) and nephews; Cousins; and other relatives.
