Michael's obituary
Michael Francis Gonzales, born on February 3rd, 1990, in Ithaca, NY, passed away on March 17th, 2024, at the age of 34. His journey began in Cortland, NY, where he attended Parker Elementary and Cortland High School before relocating to Morton, IL, where he graduated from Morton High School in 2008. Michael's athletic prowess was evident early on, particularly in wrestling, where he earned numerous accolades and medals, establishing himself as a fierce competitor.
Continuing his athletic pursuits, Michael transitioned to Southern Illinois University of SIUE as a D1 wrestler before eventually finding his way to play football at Eureka College. Later, he pursued his academic endeavors at Florida State University, majoring in Business. Whether through his athletic endeavors or professional pursuits, Michael consistently strove for excellence, often emerging as a leader. His career was marked by exceptional success, with numerous achievements, often being ranked number one in sales within his company.
Described as a strong-willed individual with relentless determination, Michael was a force to be reckoned with in every aspect of his life. Yet, beneath his fierce exterior lay a tender, loving soul, capable of lighting up any room with is presence. His ability to forge connections knew no bounds, as he effortlessly befriended individuals from all walks of life.
However, Michael's greatest source of joy and devotion was his son, Rocco. His role as a Father brought him immeasurable happiness, and he approached it with boundless love and dedication to Rocco, which knew no bounds; he would move mountains and cross oceans to ensure his son's happiness and well-being. The bond they shared was emblematic of the pure joy and unconditional love that defined their relationship.
Michael is survived by his beloved son, Rocco, and the Mother of his child, Dana, as well as his mother, Laurie Venden, father, Rick Gonzales, step-mother, Joan Gonzales, and brothers Timothy (Jaclyn) and Nicholas (Kaitlin). He is also mourned by his paternal grandmother, Molly Stegeman, paternal step-grandfather, Ron, step-siblings Jennifer, Christina, and Kenneth, nephews Alex, Andrew, and Maximus, and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Donald Gonzales, maternal grandparents, James and Patricia Hawthorne, and step-father, Steven Venden.
A private remembrance ceremony will be held, limited to immediate family members. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's memory are welcomed to support the bright future of his beloved son, Rocco Michael Ricciardulli Gonzales. Michael's legacy of strength, love, and compassion will forever endure in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
