Michael's obituary
Michael Howard Estler, known to his loved ones as Michael, passed away on December 16, 2022, in San Bernardino, CA, at the age of 68. He was born on January 15, 1954, in Morristown, New Jersey, USA, to his late father, Howard F. Estler, and his mother, Doris Cox.
Michael was a funny, generous, intelligent, strong-willed, hardworking, and entertaining individual. He had a passion for life and approached everything with enthusiasm. His vibrant personality and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In his educational journey, Michael attended Dover Elementary School in Dover, NJ, and later graduated from Boonton High School in Boonton, NJ.
Michael proudly served in the United States Navy from January 1970 to December 1974. He was stationed in Guam for much of his tenure and served on the US Dolphin Naval Submarine during his tenure. He was an esteemed member of the military community, and his dedication and commitment to serving his country were unwavering.
Following his military service, Michael embarked on a successful career. He was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the Professional Stuntmen's Association and performed stunts in various motion pictures, including such notable movies as The Exterminator (1980), Blow Out (1981), Nighthawks (1981), Ghostbusters (1984), and Cocktail (1988). Michael's expertise in stunts extended beyond his own performances, as he also shared his knowledge and skills with other aspiring stuntmen.
In his leisure time, Michael indulged in various hobbies. He had a keen eye for photography, capturing moments in time with his unique perspective. Additionally, he enjoyed refinishing furniture, transforming old pieces into treasured works of art. Michael was also an avid classic-rock enthusiast, finding solace and joy in the music that spoke to his soul.
Michael is survived by his loving mother, Doris Cox; his brother, Stephen R. Estler (Nancy); his half-brother, John G. Cox; his half-sister, Melanie L. Parker (Lee). He was preceded in death by his father, Howard F. Estler, his sister, Sandra J. Estler, his sister, Linda S. Estler, and his half-brother, Albert L. Cox. He is also survived by nephews Steven Estler, Kelcey Estler, and Jason Estler and a niece, Ann Marie Korkes.
Michael will be interred in Carlsbad, NM alongside his father. There will be no memorial services held to honor Michael's life. In lieu of flowers or charitable donations, the family kindly requests that you remember Michael in your own personal way.
