Michael's obituary
Michael Jacob Entzminger, 44, of Seattle, WA, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024. He was a lover of soccer, perfectly color-coordinated spreadsheets, and sunny activities like fishing, kayaking, running and enjoying an al fresco meal, preferably with his wife, Allison Michelle Curd-Entzminger, and their daughter, Zoe Olivia (age 10).
Although highly (highly!) analytical, detailed, and organized, Mike was also great at creative endeavors, from music and sketching to crafting. Zoe always knew that if anything needed to be drawn well or sung on key, Dad – not Mom – was the first choice in the family. And although cooking wasn’t his favorite hobby, he made amazing guacamole, a tradition that Zoe has now embraced with pride. Fortunately for all, Allison made him retire his tuna noodle casserole (though, to be fair, it was likely as good as anyone could ever make).
Mike was born April 14th, 1980, in Houston, TX, the first child of David and Melanie Entzminger. He was joined by a younger brother, Joseph David, in September 1982, when the family was living in Aurora, CO, six years before their move to Midland, TX. They had a happy family life. Mike loved and excelled at learning, from his first days as a kindergartener all the way through high school. A passionate athlete, he played soccer and baseball in his younger years, but eventually chose to focus on soccer, playing in select soccer leagues and for the Midland High Bulldogs through his senior year. As a teen, he also worked as a youth soccer referee, relishing the opportunity to give back to his favorite sport and make some spending money. Mike enjoyed his Trinity Presbyterian Church family, spending time with them during holidays, taking ski trips, and participating in other activities; it became the foundation for a faith he sustained throughout his life.
A lover of international travel, Mike’s first taste of adventure abroad came with a high school trip to Australia and New Zealand with People-to-People Student Ambassadors during his sophomore year. After graduating Midland High School in 1998, he attended Austin College in Sherman, TX where he built on his early travel experiences with a study-abroad term in China. In fact, by the time he was 21, Mike had visited four of the seven continents. After meeting Allison, the two continued exploring the world and making lifelong memories with trips to Croatia and France, and around the US.
Active in student life at Austin College, he worked with ACtivators (a student group focused on Presbyterian youth ministry events), sang and traveled with the A Cappella choir, and joined Christian fraternity Chi Tau Chi. Many friendships he made at Austin College would last a lifetime. He graduated in May 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with an emphasis on Computer Science and Physics, moving to the East Coast as part of Lockheed Martin’s leadership development program shortly afterward. Always industrious, he earned his master’s degree in software engineering from George Mason University while working full time.
During this time, Mike met Allison, the great love of his life, while both were living in the metro Washington, DC area and working at Lockheed Martin. They found their shared love of running and exploring all that our nation’s capital has to offer. Mike and Allison married on July 25 th, 2009 and relocated to Seattle, WA in 2013, where they settled down, bought their first home, and were blessed by Zoe’s birth in February 2015. Mike worked at Sila Solutions Group and Qualtrics, where he applied his skills to consulting engagements. At both places, the friendships he made were the true highlights of his experiences.
He loved and was deeply grateful for his faith, family and friends; he knew all those in his life loved him back. Mike is survived by his wife of 15 years, Allison Curd-Entzminger; their daughter, Zoe Entzminger; his mother and father, David and Melanie, his brother, Joe (Sharon), two nieces (Emily Entzminger, Maija Curd) and one nephew (Luke Entzminger). He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Edward and Iris Mordhorst; and paternal grandparents, Esther and Paul Entzminger.
Mike’s service and Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2025, starting at 2:00 p.m. at Union Church Seattle, 415 Westlake Avenue N, Seattle, WA 98109. Validated parking available in underground parking – 400 9 th Ave. (off alley).
As the service will be during the Easter season that celebrates God's promise of resurrection, we ask that guest avoid wearing black. Mike would want us to celebrate his life and more importantly, our eternal life through Christ.
