Mick's obituary

Michael (Mick) Anthony DiMartino, 72, passed away on February 14, 2024 after a battle with leukemia.

Mick was born on January 25, 1952 to Giulia DeBartolo and Albert DiMartino in West Warwick, Rhode Island. He attended West Warwick High School followed by Brown University. He had many interests and, while excelling academically, also participated in sports such as lacrosse, basketball, and baseball.

Mick's love of sports continued throughout his life leading to a career officiating volleyball, football, and softball. Some other notable jobs Mick held were tutoring, teaching in a high school, and working overnight shifts at an asylum. According to Mick this last job was one of the best, as he was paid to sleep and occasionally woken up to enjoy cake for a fellow staff member's birthday.

In Mick's case, all roads lead to home (plate). He met Melinda while umpiring a game that her team was playing. They met when Melinda as the catcher complimented him for his cleaning skills while he cleaned home plate in between batters. His reply (much to the embarrassment of their children) turned her beet red and the rest is history! Mick and Melinda enjoyed 38 years of marriage and have three children together: Angela, Tony, and Monica. They spent most of their time together living in Pacifica, California. In the summer of 2021 Mick, Melinda, and Tony moved to Kissimmee, Florida where he resided until his passing.

Family meant everything to Mick and he was happiest when visiting or supporting his wife and children. Throughout the years Mick attended countless sporting events, theatre productions, and recitals put on by his children. He traveled to multiple states and even countries to support his children in their artistic and athletic endeavors.  His support will not be forgotten by his family.

Mick is fondly remembered by his wife Melinda, his children, his brothers, and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also remembered by friends and colleagues he met throughout the years.
