Michael's obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael “Mike” Brooks, a devoted father, cherished brother, beloved grandfather, and a man whose impact on this world will never be forgotten. Mike passed away on February 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Baltimore, MD, on November 19, 1967, Mike was the son of the late Barry Lee Brooks and Carolyn Sue Douthat. He is survived by his brothers, Barry Lee Brooks Jr. Eric Robert Brooks, Jonathan Brooks, and Daniel Dalton Brooks; his three daughters, Carolynn Nicole Lekki, Erin Kay Brooks, and Alyssa Ann Brooks; and his treasured grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
Mike dedicated his life to serving others. A proud U.S. Army veteran, he was an honor graduate M60 Tanker at Fort Knox before transitioning into a career as a firefighter and paramedic. Over his 25-year career, he worked tirelessly to save lives, serving with Hardee County, Westside Fire Department, the City of Largo Fire Department, and Manatee County EMS, where he was a SWAT medic. He later led the EMS program at MTI before finishing his distinguished career at Longboat Key Fire Department, where he eventually retired. His passion for emergency medicine extended beyond the field, as he also owned and operated CPR training businesses, including "CPR Guy," ensuring others were equipped with life-saving skills.
While Mike was known for his heroic service, he was also the heart and soul of every gathering. His quick wit, infectious laughter, and endless stories made life more fun for everyone around him. He was happiest outdoors—whether hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, or cheering on his favorite teams, the Rays, Lightning, and Buccaneers. But more than anything, he loved sharing these moments with the people he cared about.
Mike’s greatest joy in life was his family. He adored his daughters and grandchildren beyond measure, always putting them first and making every moment with them special. From spontaneous dance parties to belting out songs in the car, he created a lifetime of cherished memories. He instilled in his children the values of kindness, strength, and doing right by others.
Though our hearts are shattered by his passing, we take solace in the incredible memories he left us. Mike’s larger-than-life personality, unwavering love for his family, and dedication to helping others made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. His stories will be told for generations, and his presence will be deeply missed.
A service to honor and celebrate Mike’s life will be held on February 22nd at Under The Oaks in Tampa, FL. from 1pm-4pm . The family appreciates the love and support from all who knew him during this difficult time.
