Michael D. Cintas
April 20th, 1948 – July 14, 2025
With deep love and profound respect, we share the passing of Michael D. Cintas, who left us peacefully on July 14th, 2025, at the age of 77 in Rancho Mirage, California.
Michael lived a life defined by resilience, passion, and unwavering conviction. Born in San Diego, California, Michael discovered his passion for horses early in life, developing a talent that would evolve into a celebrated career as an equestrian competitor and international coach.
Over the decades, Michael’s influence reached across the globe. He proudly served as Head Stadium Jumper Coach for the U.S. Olympic Pentathlon Team, working with athletes from numerous countries. He taught them not only the art of riding but also the discipline and mindset required to succeed. His coaching wasn’t just about technique; it was about building character, patience, and perseverance.
Michael’s journey wasn’t without challenges. In his early adult years, he faced one of his greatest personal trials when he lost his leg. Yet, even this did not slow him down. Michael used his experience as motivation to become a sought-after motivational speaker, encouraging others to overcome adversity with determination and grace. His words resonated with audiences, reflecting both his toughness and his belief in the power of the human spirit.
"You can't coach heart, but you can coach everything else."
An author, a mentor, and a guide to countless students around the world, Michael’s teachings extended beyond the equestrian arena. His legacy lives on through the riders he coached, the families he inspired, and the friends he made along the way.
Michael was also a proud father and grandfather. His children and grandchildren brought him immense joy, especially in his later years, offering him moments of peace and reflection after a life spent in motion.
In recent years, Michael made his home at The Springs Country Club in Palm Desert. It was there that he found community and camaraderie, with a favorite bar seat that many will remember as “Michael’s spot.”
Michael D. Cintas, or Coach Michael, as he preferred to be called, will be remembered as a man who never did anything halfway. Whether coaching a rider over a jump, delivering a speech, or sharing a candid opinion, he did it with passion, authenticity, and his favorite word: conviction!
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, siblings, and an extended family of students, colleagues, and friends who will carry forward his lessons and his legacy.
A celebration of life will be held at The Springs Country Club, honoring Michael in the way he would have wanted, surrounded by good food, good company, and stories shared in his memory.
Rest in peace, Michael. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
