Michael's obituary
Mike, as he was called by most, was born on June 2, 1953 in Wichita, KS, son of the late Francis John Ast and Margaret Geraldine (Hermes) Ast. Growing up in Kansas, Mike graduated from Cheney High School with the Class of 1972. Mike worked for over forty years at Friend Tire in Monett, most recently as an overnight guard. Throughout his life, Mike was of the Catholic faith. He was a league bowler at the Strike Zone in Aurora, enjoyed watching NASCAR races, rooting for the Kansas Jayhawks, farming, fishing, taking care of his lawn, and most importantly, spending time with his grandkids and attending their sporting events.
On October 13, 1990 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Monett, Mike married Wanda Marie Witt. Within their family, they were blessed with four daughters. Wanda passed away on July 1, 2014. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Stan Ast.
Mike is survived by his daughters and grandchildren: Lastacia Tottingham and husband Simon, and their children Madyson, Carter, Devyn and Greyson, of Seneca; Cassie Potts and husband Craig, and their children Leah, Abby and Kaitlin, of Springfield; Mackenzie Ast, of Springfield; and Whitney Ast and her children Penelope and Matilda, of Monett; five brothers, Vernon, David, Ron, Melvin and wife Gwen and Glenn and wife Sarah; two sisters, Judy Mertes and Linda McFerrin and husband Mike; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Following a private family graveside service, a Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the Strike Zone Bowling Alley, 815 W. South Street, Aurora. All are invited to come and celebrate Mike’s life. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
