Michael's obituary

Michael Hall Appareti, age 72, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 20, 2025, at his home in Thornton, Colorado. His journey on earth ended too soon, but his impact on the lives of others will be felt and remembered in our hearts forever.

Michael was born June 1, 1952, in Rockville Center Long Island, New York to Luigi and Jeanne Appareti. He is survived by his first wife, Mary Gallagher, and their daughter Nicole Nottingham; son-in-law Kyle Nottingham, grandson Jack Nottingham, granddaughter Victoria Nottingham, their son Jeffrey Appareti, daughter-in-law Allison Appareti, granddaughter Lyra Appareti, granddaughter Sylvie Appareti, current wife Susan Means, and stepdaughter Lalaena Gonzalez-Figueroa, and step son-in-law Christian Figueroa, step-grandson Christian Figueroa, step-granddaughter Sofia Figueroa, and stepson Mason Means, and his partner Krystal Evans and brother Kevin Appareti and his wife Virginia and their sons Gregor, Erik, Peter, and Karl.

He was a loving, supportive and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend. Michael was always patient, easy going, attentive and fun to be with family and friends alike. Even strangers down on their luck would get a kind word from Michael as he stopped and asked, “how are you doing?” Michael loved spending time with his grandkids and step-grandkids supporting their many activities, sports, and just having fun enjoying life. You could see it in his eyes and actions how much he loved his entire family.

He was a dedicated, loyal and happy employee of Costco, who held several positions with pride and upheld their guiding principle of doing the right thing for members and being kind to coworkers. He loved serving members with a smile and was always willing to chat and help when needed. He truly enjoyed his work and especially appreciated his colleagues at Costco who became a second family to him.

Prior to working at Costco Michael had various jobs over the years from bank teller to Starbucks barista to hotel management in the food and beverage and catering departments.

One of Michael’s passions was golf. He loved the game and played often with his son Jeff and his friends. His clubs were a combination of thrifting excursions and hand-me-downs. But it wasn’t the clubs that mattered to him, it was who he was playing with and the enjoyment of being outdoors and strengthening the bonds with family and friends.

Another passion was music. He initially started with the clarinet but switched to playing drums and even played a bit of piano. He was so proud, as was Luigi, when he received his musician’s union card after his drums audition in the 1970’s. It was not uncommon for Michael to be practicing and emulating some of his favorite drummers like Buddy Rich or Gene Krupa.

Michael also loved to listen to music. He appreciated various genres and groups but had a real love of jazz. One song he loved to listen to was the Theme Song to Mannix the television show in the 1960’s and 1970’s. The extended version of that song had a piano solo that was his favorite. I suspect it was because it reminded him of how his father Luigi would play jazz piano and that made him happy. He loved talking about music with family and friends and was in the process of putting together a playlist with his step-grandson.

The Celebration of Life service to honor the life of Michael Hall Appareti will be held on Friday, June 13th at a local golf club. A fitting location to celebrate his passion for golf and to share fond memories of his life and the meaning it had for so many. While we play golf on earth and slice and hook our way through 9 holes, we can take comfort in knowing that he is teeing up with his dad in heaven to play the perfect round.
