Mike's obituary

Michael “Mike” Anderson Abernathy, born December 29, 1956, entered into eternal rest in late January 2026 at the age of 69.

Born in Chicago, Mike later lived in Phoenix, Arizona, and spent his final years in Georgia. Above all else, Mike loved God. His faith was the foundation of his life and the strength that carried him through every season. He boldly shared the Word of God with anyone who would listen and found comfort in Psalm 55:22: “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” His trust in the Lord was steady and unwavering.

Mike was a natural storyteller, often sharing vivid memories of his childhood that brought laughter, lessons, and a glimpse into the experiences that shaped the man he became. He had a way of making the past feel alive. He was also a wonderful cook, preparing meals that gathered family together and filled rooms not only with delicious food, but with love and connection.

Mike was strong-willed and determined, able to accomplish anything he set his mind to. He taught his family resilience and strength, while also showing them kindness and unwavering love. His contagious laugh and steadfast faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Mike is now rejoicing in Heaven with his parents and his beloved son, Michael. He is survived by his son Julian, his daughter Sycora, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved deeply. The promise of John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life,” was a truth he held close to his heart and now rests in eternally.
