M'Hercedes's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of M'Hercedes "Cedes" Lopez-Decatur, 33. She passed peacefully into God’s presence on March 5, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones after a difficult battle with Lupus. She was known for her vibrant personality, dedication to her friends and family, and for being unapologetically herself.
Cedes was born in Long beach, grew up in Santa Monica and graduated from Santa Monica Highschool in 2010. During and after high school Cedes volunteered as a counselor for Youth First, a local Christian group, overseeing afterschool and summer activities for kids 18 and under. Following high school, she earned a degree in nursing and pursued a career in healthcare.
Despite the challenges of living with a chronic illness, Cedes lived with remarkable strength and determination. While the butterfly rash is a common sign of Lupus, it is beautifully fitting that Cedes embodied the spirit of a butterfly, spreading love to everyone whose life she touched.
M'Hercedes was predeceased by her father, Ronald Jackson. She is survived by her mother, Margo Lopez, grandmother, Clara Jackson, brother Ronnie Clark, sister-in-law Kilian Clark, and niece Hazel Clark.
Services will be held on March 20th at 9 am at Phillips Chapel CME in Santa Monica with her burial services to follow at Inglewood Park Cemetery at 12:00pm.
M'Hercedes will be dearly missed and always remembered.
