Meremoth Epaphras Weir peacefully passed away on July 27, 2025, at the age of 95 in Knockpatrick, Manchester, Jamaica. Born to Albertha Weir nee Thompson and Alexander Weir on January 20, 1930, in Bois Content, Bella’s Gate, St. Catherine, Jamaica, Meremoth lived a long, fulfilling life rooted in faith, family, and service.
He was known to many as "Elder Weir", affectionately known as "Glady". Uncle Glady to his nieces and nephews and Glady or Glads to close friends and siblings. He was the devoted husband of Beatrice Weir, and a loving father to Mercedes Weir, Marilyn Weir-Smythe (Wyatt Smythe), and Marchelle Rachel (Benjamin Rachel Jr.). He was preceded in death by his son, Milton Weir. Meremoth’s legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Derrick Hall, Jonathan Hall, Myles Rachel, and Keava Rachel, along with a host of nieces and nephews who adored him dearly. He also leaves behind his beloved remaining siblings, Lois Miller and Garnet Weir.
Meremoth dedicated his life to serving God and the Seventh-day Adventist Church, working faithfully with the East Jamaica Conference and the West Indies Union. He went to Kingsway High School in Kingston, Jamaica, attended West Indies College (now known as Northern Caribbean University), achieving his Bachelor of Science in Theology and Andrews University in Michigan, USA, where he attained his Master of Divinity degree. He later received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from NCU. He loved to pray for and with others. His unwavering commitment to his faith touched countless lives and inspired all who knew him.
Beyond his ministry, Meremoth was a man of many interests—he loved farming, reading, and exploring the wonders of philosophy and physics. He also enjoyed swimming and was proud to be left-handed. Known for his kind heart, caring spirit, and wonderful sense of humor, Meremoth brought joy and wisdom to every conversation.
He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and the many lives he touched through his faith and friendship.
