Melvin's obituary
Melvin was born on May 10, 1939 to Cornelius V. Talley and Pauline Fisher Talley in Waynesboro. Melvin was a 1958 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
Melvin was predeceased by his parents and one son, Charles Allen Talley. He is survived by Libby, his wife of 58 years, 3 sons, Melvin Talley Jr. (Mary) of Roanoke, James Talley (Tammy) of Grottoes, Chris Talley (Tracey) of Waynesboro, one sister Faye Utterback (Ed) of Portsmouth, one brother Ronnie Talley of Lexington NC, 7 grandchildren, Josh, Scott, David, Nikki, Krystal, Brett and Keira, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Melvin was an enthusiastic sports fan and could always be found next to a TV where a ballgame was playing. He loved the Green Bay Packers, Washington Redskins and the Boston Celtics. He was absolutely thrilled when his beloved Los Angeles Dodgers captured the 2020 World Series last month.
In Melvin's younger years, he was much more than a fan. He was an exceptional softball player who earned the nickname "Maz" after the great Pirates second baseman. He could often be found on a ball field somewhere if there was a game to be played. He cherished the friendships and memories he acquired over the many years and many teams he was a part of.
