Still think of you often Mel. You’re in my heart forever.
Mel was an incredible human. I treasured every moment I was able to spend with him. He was a trusted friend, and gave so much of who he is to others. He really knew how to live. If there is any way that I could pay tribute to him I think it will have to be to face life head on with laughter, love and enthusiasm. To live. To forgive. To step into the unknown. To encourage. To love. To laugh. CFAR will miss him. I will miss him. His laughter and guidance will never be far away. Blessings to his family who feel this loss so deeply.
Mel was an astonishing human being. I had the pleasure to get to know him only for a short time but his bigger-than-life and his fabulous energy leave a lasting imprint on your life forever no matter how long or short of time you might have known him. He was the very definition of living life to the fullest, I have never met anyone that had such a thirst for life and exploring as Mel, along with having the biggest, kindest heart! My compassion goes out to Mel's family as I know that was the most important thing to him.
Very sorry to hear of Mel's passing.  I had the privilege of working with him at Esso Resources years ago.  Mel was an honourable guy with a great sense of humour.  He will be truly missed by all who knew him.  My condolences to the Benson family.

I was unaware of Mel's passing ... truly sad to hear,  I always appreciated Mel's perspectives.  My deepest condolences to Mel's family - He will be missed, and will always be remembered.

Mel's friends at Hull Services are so sad to hear of his passing.  Mel was a Board member, friend and long time supporter of Hull Services.  His memory lives on through his many efforts and contributions to supporting children, youth and families impacted by trauma.  We hold Mel in high respect and our thoughts and prayers are with Mel's family at this difficult time.

All my relations,

Julie Kerr, Executive Director

Family get together with Uncle Ralph
Mel use to call me
Mel use to call me "uncle Ralph". In the mid 1980's he asked me to go on a trip with him and only said "bring your camera". We flew from Calgary to Inuvik, then to Tuktoyaktuk and 150 miles into the Beufort sea. Then I took a pic of Mel in front of the Dredger on the man-made island. Three weeks ago I had enlarged this pic and gave it to him. While in Calgary Mel & Margaret came to our family get together where I played Mel's guitar and sang gospel & country songs that Mel asked for. I played my fiddle accompanied by my daughter & granddaughter & great grandson. Mel really enjoyed his evening with us. Mel took me for breakfast and it took us so long to get to the restaurant that I thought he was taking me back to Tuktoyaktuk. Mel invited me to stay with him next year for the Metis Assembly which was so like him too do. It is hard to believe he is gone. I will miss him very much. I will have him in my prayers. Love from Uncle Ralph.
I had the pleasure and honour of working with Mel at Imperial Oil for several years. I learned a great deal about leadership from his words and especially his behaviour whichI have been able to pass along to others throughout my career. My condolences to Mel's family. I also feel a sense of loss.
