Melrose was born on [October 31st, 1933 to Mary and Lloyd in North Carolina. After graduating from college, he went on to serve in the air force. He traveled the world until one day, in Germany, he met Sieglinde, and they wed in 1958, going on to have three children, Barbara, Diana, and Monique and four grandchildren, Candace, Renee, Vivien and Victore. Melrose was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his children and grandchildren and always tried his best to support them.

Anyone who knew Melrose knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. He was involved in the community and volunteered in the Swansboro committee.
