Melissa's obituary

Melissa Ann Haggerty, born July 2, 1992, passed from this world leaving behind a powerful legacy of compassion, courage, creativity, and service. Guided by her Odinist faith and a deep reverence for life, Melissa walked her path with honor and purpose, believing that every soul deserves dignity, care, and truth.

Melissa was the beloved daughter of Micheal Lynn Haggerty, who survives her, and Carol Ann Charette, and the cherished stepdaughter of Claudia Ann Pedersen. She was a loving sister to Janel Clendeing and Elijah Ward, a devoted spouse to John Leland Combs, and a fiercely loving mother to Preston, Bubbles, Aiden, and Brodee, who were the center of her life and her greatest joy.

Raised in Pahrump, Nevada, Melissa later made her home in Lakeside, California, where she continued to build a life grounded in service and community. She dedicated her professional life to healthcare as an LVAD Coordinator at Scripps Mercy Hospital in La Jolla, serving patients and families with exceptional skill, empathy, and unwavering dedication. Alongside her medical career, she pursued her creative calling, working toward a degree in Digital Cinematography at the Los Angeles Film School, believing deeply in the power of storytelling to preserve truth, memory, and the human spirit.

Melissa was a woman of many talents and passions. She was an avid writer and reader, a published author recognized on Goodreads, and a creative entrepreneur who found joy in candle making. She loved travel, fitness, and animals, and she was a USDA grower, reflecting her respect for the earth and nurturing life. Above all, she was driven by compassion and action—never turning away from those in need.

In alignment with her values, Melissa founded the nonprofit Future First San Diego, dedicated to harm reduction and homeless outreach. Through this work, she sought to protect the vulnerable, reduce suffering, and remind the world that humanity is measured by how we care for one another.

As an Odinist, Melissa honored the old ways—courage, wisdom, sacrifice, and community. She believed death is not an ending, but a crossing. May she now be welcomed by the ancestors, her journey continuing beyond the veil, her deeds remembered, and her name spoken with honor.

Norse Farewell

Far þú nú í friði,

með heiður ok hugrekki.

Ættir taka móti þér,

ok Valhöll bíður.

(Go now in peace, with honor and courage.

Your ancestors receive you, and Valhalla awaits.)

Until we meet again beyond the horizon—

Hail the traveler.

Hail the journey.

Hail Melissa Ann Haggerty.
