Melanie's obituary

Melanie Lea Fieffe, 46, of Norwalk, CT passed away at home on January 12th, 2022 surrounded by loving family after a long battle with cancer. Melanie was born on February 26th, 1975, in Augusta, Maine to Gayle (Brown) Hendsbee and Edward (Ted) Hendsbee.

Melanie was a 1993 graduate of Messalonskee High School in Oakland, Maine. She then went on to receive her degree in Biology from Roger Williams University where she also played basketball. This is also where she met her husband, Dale Fieffe. After earning her undergraduate degree Melanie spent time in Florida working in education. Melanie had a strong desire to advance her passion of science education and decided to enroll at New York University where she earned her MS degree in science education. After graduation, Melanie worked in the pharmaceutical industry for several years initially with Eli Lilly and then Merck Pharmaceuticals.

After taking some time off to raise her family, Melanie returned to her true passion of education. Melanie worked in several rewarding roles in the Norwalk Public School system. She then became a middle school science teacher at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan where her passion of science was shared and embraced by the students there as well. Melanie loved all her students deeply.

Melanie was a beloved, cherished member of her community. She spent many years involved in her children’s school helping to organize events. While helping to create great experience for students she also developed deep personal friendships through her kind heart and spirit. Melanie also served on a few school and town committees to help improve the experience for our students. This included committees on special education which was a passion for her.

There were no boundaries or ceilings for Melanie. Her passion for education extended beyond the classroom. She loved to coach her son’s basketball teams in local leagues ensuring they learned the fundamentals. Her energy and enthusiasm were embraced by her athletes and coaches alike. Melanie wanted every child to be involved and have fun.

Melanie’s strength, warmth, perseverance and smile will be remembered by everyone who met her. In Melanie’s beautiful eyes, everyone needed to be loved and cared for.

Melanie is survived by her devoted husband Dale Fieffe. Her children, Andrew (16), Cameron (14) and Matthew (11). Her loving parents, Gayle (Brown) Hendsbee and Edward (Ted) Hendsbee of Belgrade, Maine. Her dear sister Amy (Hendsbee) Veilleux and brother-in-law Paul Veilleux of Belgrade, Maine. Her nieces and nephew, Gabrielle, Ariana, Maria and Reece Veilleux. Melanie is also survived by her dear in-laws, Marie and Joseph Fieffe, sister-in-law Kathleen Fieffe of Stamford, CT. Melanie had many caring and loving aunts, uncles, and cousins in Maine who will miss her dearly.

The family will receive friends at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave Norwalk, CT 06851 on Tuesday, January 18th 2022 from 4-8pm. There will be a visitation followed by a prayer and memorial service. There will also be a Celebration of Life event in Maine this Summer on August 27th.
