Meg's obituary

Meghan Joan Mearns, affectionately known as “Meg”, passed away from COVID-19 without the vaccine on August 23, 2021 in Vail, CO. She was fought for and in the care of the incredible staff of Vail Health where she had worked for 7 years. She is survived by many as she was only 31 years old. She was the youngest daughter to Arthur and Victoria Mearns of Knoxville, Tennessee, her loving and devoted parents whom she looked up to as “the light of her life”. She was loved by her two sisters, Sarah Walkup in Fort Collins, CO and Jessica “Jess” Joy in Knoxville, TN, and by her half-brother, Chris Cafarchia, in Pittsboro, NC. She will be missed by her sibling in-laws, Jamison Walkup, Spencer Joy, and Paige Otos. She was a fun-loving aunt to her nieces and nephew, Wylder and Juniper of Sarah and Jamison, and Quinn and Cian of Chris and Paige. She was survived by her cherished 90 year old maternal grandmother, Ann Allan, and by her loving aunts and uncles, Pam Mearns, Keith and Mary Allan, Laura and Bob Quaid, Gery Allan, Maria and Geoff Black, & Michael and Grace Allan and all of their children.

Meghan was an avid and very talented photographer and captured on camera the things she loved most – nature and her beloved dog, Daisy Mae, who was her companion on countless camping trips, hikes, and snowshoe escapades throughout the Colorado mountains, as well as on many road trips across the US. Meghan was brave, adventurous, and loyal. We will always remember her for the fierce love she had for her family, infectious smile, sense of humor, and generosity. She will be remembered by many as she rests in the arms of her savior, Jesus, in whom she put her faith, hope, and trust.

In consideration of the fragility of life, it is the wish of her family that those who have not been vaccinated to please do so in the name of Meghan’s life, your own, and your neighbor’s in order to prevent other families from having to endure such heartbreak from a death that could have been prevented. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Meghan’s name to the Eagle Valley Humane Society. In order to view Meghan’s legacy and life, please visit her Instagram, @megjoan02.

In light of the pandemic and due to limited size capacity, the memorial service will be held for her family only on Monday at noon in Vail, Colorado. 2 Peter 1:6-8
