Maybelle had the most wonderful smile.
Maybelle I. Hamilton, age 93, of Pleasant Hill, California passed away peacefully into Heaven on Thursday, February 4, 2021 of pneumonia due to Covid-19.
Maybelle was born in Oakland, California to Erwin H. Hamilton and Irene M. (Resler) Hamilton and was raised in Oakland, California. She graduated from Oakland Tech. High School and went to work for the Oakland Tribune.
In her twenties, while working as a civilian for the United States Navy, she met her husband. They married and moved to the Chicago area, settling in Downers Grove, IL, where they raised their 3 children, Diane, Audrey, and Fred. Twenty years later her marriage ended, so Maybelle moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area where she worked as an Administrative Assistant.
God was the foundation of Maybelle’s life and her social life revolved around her church. She was an active member of Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church for over 40 years.
Maybelle was a sweet kind woman who loved people and treated everyone as a friend. Always positive, and immediately finding good everywhere. She always had a beautiful smile that came from her heart.
Maybelle had a wonderful gift of seeing and appreciating beauty all around her. She loved art, and drawing and painting. If you met her, she probably did a quick little sketch of you and gave it to you.
Maybelle loved nature, commenting on the sky, trees, flowers, and how great God is to have made all this beauty for us. She pointed out how the limbs of trees looked like arms reaching to the sky as if to say, “Thank you God!”
Maybelle loved music and singing and was always a member of the church choir. She enjoyed ALL types of music – from classical to contemporary, even marching bands. Any rhythm would inspire her to move to the music.
Maybelle was a life-long learner, taking classes at Diablo Valley College. She enjoyed new technology and got her first computer at age 60.
Maybelle is survived by and is lovingly and proudly remembered by her three children – Diane (Paul) Kostelec, Audrey (Richard) Ward, her son, Fred (Cindy) Scritsmier and her three grandchildren - Will, Samantha and Grant.
Maybelle was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Christine P. Albrecht, son-in-law, Richard E. Ward, and by her grandson, Evan F. Scritsmier.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
